Our hike at Tallulah Gorge

About two and half years ago, on our way up to Tennessee to visit Adrian’s parents, we drove through Tallulah Gorge State Park on one particularly beautiful, cold, misty afternoon. It was a beautiful sight!

We wanted to return for a proper visit, but hadn’t yet had the chance. Finally, we decided to make the drive up there on Saturday to celebrate the first day of Summer Vacation. Yes, school gets out early here! 🙂 Just a little over an hour away, and there we were, right in the mountains! The weather was absolutely perfect. We could not have asked for a better afternoon!

We started the day off by stopping at the running store to pick up my new Trail Running shoes – Brooks Cascadias, which had come in just in time for this little hiking trip. Then we hit up the Academy Sports & Outdoors store for a few more supplies.

Then we got on the road. Of course I was sporting an Orangetheory tank top.

But everything else was purple. Hahaha.

We decided to take the path (#2, I think?) which involved a climb of 340 stairs down to a suspension bridge, and then back up again. The kids were excited about the task!

Though we did need to take a few breaks. Thankfully, they had benches along the route.

Lots of pretty flowers were in bloom.

As we descended down the steps, the trees got higher and higher. So beautiful, with sunlight shining through!

At last, we made it to the crazy suspension bridge!

William was very curious and looked over the edge with Daddy for a bit.

Then, of course, we had to climb back up! 340 more steps… what a workout!

We chose Trail #1 next, which was only a quarter mile long and had a beautiful view of the falls. It also had steps (not as many though) and was flatter in general, so Zachary and I had fun jogging a bit together. He’s a pretty good runner, and enjoys it, and we had a lot of fun together.

At last, we reached the falls! It was a beautiful sight, with sunlight shining down and sparkling on the water.

Since it was getting late, we didn’t have time to check out the other trails that day. We look forward to our next visit to Tallulah Gorge. They also have a special trail that is adults-only, as it’s very long and more difficult. I would love to check it out some one day with Adrian. We had a great time with the kids though – I am always impressed by their hiking. This was a short one, though it was complicated with about 400 stairs up and then down. We hiked about 1.25 miles total.

I just love that we can hop in the car any time we want and visit any state park – or other park – many within 15 minutes to an hour away – any time we want. While we moved here to GA for many reasons, the proximity to the outdoors and adventures to have with the kids tops the list. Can’t wait til our next adventure!
