Islamorada = Love

Last month, my fab second shooter & friend Jessica and I went to Islamorada to photograph a wedding. I took my point & shoot camera (Canon G11) and my iPhone4 everywhere to take snaps while we acted like tourists in between wedding activities.

Here we are! Do we look relaxed or what? YAY, we’re in the Keys!!!!

Cool hammock at the motel, except it went so low to the ground it wasn’t really productive.

When we arrived we decided the best thing we could do was go get a snack and some piña coladas, in true Florida Keys style. We ended up over at the Cheeca Lodge, where the wedding was to be held, so we could check it out, not to mention drink THE MOST AMAZING piña coladas on the planet. And let’s not even discuss how great the fish dip was or I might get in my car right now and drive down there to order some.

Following our appetizer at Cheeca, we decided to check out the incredible Morada Bay Beach Cafe, which is right next door to Pierre’s Restaurant. The last time I was in the Keys, I’d shot a wedding at Pierre’s, and they are co-owned, so I knew the food would be good. Was it ever!!! We had an amazing dinner with all kinds of tapas that we shared, and ended with a shared slice of Key Lime Pie. It was phenomenal.

After dinner, the sun was just starting to set over the Gulf so we moved over to the wonderful set up of Adirondack chairs next to the stage, listened to some island music, and watched a magnificent sunset. It doesn’t get better than this. None of these sunset pictures have been edited by the way. It really WAS that beautiful, if you can even imagine.

I absolutely love it down there. I need to make a point to get down there more than just one or two times a year, and more often than just when I’m working, as I would love to bring my little family to come enjoy this paradise with me. I love love love the Keys.

  1. I love Islamorada! The most incredible sunsets to be seen at the end of the pier at the Cheeca Lodge. Thanks for mentally sending me back that 🙂 Great memories for me there 🙂

  2. Wow, that looks absolutely wonderful. I’m really needing a vacation. We’re planning a cruise next summer for our tenth anniversary…so looking forward to it.
