As we made our preparations to welcome our new baby home, I had the pleasure of reviewing the Lorex LIVE View Video Baby Monitor.
When Zachary was born, I didn’t think I needed a video monitor and went with a regular one. It did the job, but I always wondered what was going on in his room when he thought I wasn’t looking! I find that a video monitor is a lot more fun to work with, and it really gives parents peace of mind to be able to check in on the baby at any time.
Setting the monitor up was fairly easy. I am the kind of person who doesn’t like to read directions unless I absolutely have to, and I was able to figure out most of the features – my husband helped with a few things, but overall it was not difficult.
The video and sound comes through loud and clear without any crazy interference. Since the monitor includes multiple channels, you can change the channel too, if you needed to. The monitor is also very lightweight and not at all bulky, which is nice if you’re wearing it on your belt as you move around the house. I also like that it uses rechargeable batteries and has a battery-saving mode. The design is sleek and looks good in any modern nursery!
One of the nicest features I found was that even if the monitor sound is muted, if there is noise in the room, the monitor will light up with red rather than the usual green. This is great when you’re watching TV at night (as my husband and I enjoy doing) and want to keep the sound low or muted. With the red alert light on the Lorex LIVE View Video Monitor, there’s no doubt that you’ll miss your baby calling for you. Additionally, there is also two-way communication, so you can talk back to your baby, too! Another huge plus is that the wireless signal is secure, so you don’t have to worry about anyone snooping in on your family.
Since the baby is actually sleeping in our bedroom for the time being (he is still waking up in the middle of the night), we had our first opportunity to use the monitor when we got home from the hospital and Zachary picked up a bad cold. Like any kid, he needed us in the middle of the night because he wasn’t feeling well and needed some Tylenol or just some reassurance. The two-way voice communication was an amazing feature that made Zachary feel very secure, since his room is all the way across the house and he knew that with the Lorex LIVE View Video Monitor turned on, I would be able to see, hear, and talk to him in the middle of the night if he did not feel well and needed help. I was really thankful to have had this video monitor so I could keep track of Zachary at 3am when I woke up to feed William, and let him know that I was on my way to his room to help him.
There are only a couple of things that Lorex could do to improve the device. Most notable is that there is a pretty loud beeping noise when you initiate a connection between the camera and monitor and when the battery is low. However, that is not a deal breaker at ALL. This is a really nice monitor.
