Wordless Wednesday: Vietnam Veterans & Photographers

As I’ve posted before, my dad Peter Berlin was a combat photographer in the Vietnam War. One of his old friends from the war is famous combat photojournalist Al Rockoff, who is well-known for his coverage of the Vietnam War as well as the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.

I’ve been hearing about Al for years, but hadn’t had the chance to meet him until a week and a half ago. My parents, husband, kids, and I visited Washington DC and the surrounding areas for the week of Mother’s Day, and it just so happened that Al Rockoff was going to be at the Vietnam Memorial the same day and time that we were planning to visit with my mom and dad. What a coincidence!

This was a very momentous trip for my family, as my dad had not been back to DC since he got out of Vietnam in 1970 and had never seen the Vietnam Veterans Memorial before. I’m so glad I was able to capture some images of my dad at the Wall – as well as the images below of my dad at the Wall with his friend Al.

Last weekend our country celebrated Armed Forces Day and this coming weekend we will celebrate Memorial Day. Thanks to all current and past members of the United States Armed Forces!
