Pregnancy

36 weeks

I don’t have much to report on this week. Overall I am feeling pretty lousy. My back and hips hurt. Heartburn is pretty bad. I went to the doctor earlier this week and was NOT dilated at all. 🙁 I have been having tons of Braxton-Hicks contractions (practice contractions) which hurt, as well as ridiculous amounts of pressure. The baby is in the right position (head down) but he has not yet “dropped” – if I’m having this much pressure already without him dropping, I can’t imagine how uncomfortable I am going to feel when that happens! Fortunately I’m only 4 weeks away from my due date now.

Adrian and I are shooting a wedding on Saturday, so after that I will be trying to do more things to encourage labor – like walking, eating tropical fruits, eating spicy food, and I might even try visualization. I am sooooo anxious for this baby to get here!!!

And here’s the scoop on 36 week activity from babycenter.com:

Your baby is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. He now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. He’s shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered his body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected his skin during his nine-month amniotic bath. Your baby swallows both of these substances, along with other secretions, resulting in a blackish mixture, called meconium, will form the contents of his first bowel movement. At the end of this week, your baby will be considered full-term.

  1. very exciting! just imagine – soon you’ll be holding your son! that will make all the pain and discomfort worth it. but i’m sure that is small potatoes coming from someone who is NOT going through what you are. 😉 *hugs*

  2. as per my acupuncturist…walking on the sand (at the beach) is a good natural way to get the process started. something about specific pressure points on your feet that induce labor without doing it sooo directly like pushing them specifically. i did it for the two days before my water broke. whether it was coincidence or not, it worked!

  3. I am a lot of discomfort too, but it seems like different kinds. My pubic symphysis/pelvic/hips region is in super super super crazy pain. I think I’m developing pregnancy-related carpal tunnel. And I’m just huge and I can’t bend over.

Of course I stand up all day at work, so I somehow have no doubts that I will go into labor.

    Last week I wasn’t dilated at all… I go back on Tuesday…

  4. You have my sympathies. I cannot even imagine how uncomfortable you are.

I’m so excited to see photos of new baby boy and your family of three.
