Ft. Lauderdale Beach at Riomar – A Beautiful Day

Things have been pretty busy for me! Business is doing well, which means I’ve barely had a free second to sit down and write…. so I apologize for the lack of blog posts, but I assure you though, I have lots of photos to post and a lot to write about.

Last week I photographed a lovely lady’s boudoir shoot at the W Hotel on Ft. Lauderdale Beach. I had so much fun, and after the shoot I had some time to kill before heading back home to pick up Zachary from school. I’d put too much money in my parking meter so I decided to stop for a lemonade at Le Marche (the gourmet bakery at the Hilton hotel next door) and take a walk along the beach to photograph the beautiful day. All images were photographed with my Canon 5D and 50mm f/1.4 lens and processed with Totally Rad Presets.

The sky was unimaginably blue!

The lifeguards were keeping watch over the beachgoers. It was very windy, so I’m assuming they were watching for riptides and the like.

There were so many seagulls and birds flying around! There were also quite a few jellyfish washed up on shore! I’d never seen one like this before. They looked like balloons.

Love the photo below. I want to make a print of it for my house.

I just couldn’t get over how beautiful it was. Despite the wind, it was really a perfect day.

So very Ft. Lauderdale.

  1. I think your vision of Ft Lauderdale Beach is wonderful. I love the way you’ve captured the light, a world away from the darker saturated stuff I photograph. I love seeing how a different eye brings out a new way to look at a familiar subject.

I’m not a bright light shooter, so I’m usually gone from the beach by 8.30am. I don’t find the brightness of the day an easy subject at all.

I love your juxtapositions too. All in all a great set of photographs.

    1. Thank you for your wonderful comments about my photos! It’s always nice to hear from another photographer who shoots from a different perspective. And fun to see images that you capture through another’s eyes. Go shoot one day in bright light. You shoot frequently with your iphone, right? It handles the dynamic range quite well. I’m not sure if you use hipstamatic or instagram but if you do you should try it out with your beach photos. I think you’ll really enjoy it. I would love to see what you capture midday. These images, btw, were taken at around noon!

  2. I absolutely love these photos and the processing. You are giving me a strong reason to move to Florida! The weather is so icky here in Chicago right now.

    1. Sheena: thank you so much! Come to Florida, we can have a playdate on the beach! My little guy is pretty obsessed with sand and shoveling at the moment. 😉

  3. Oh, Karen….You have made me so nostalgic for Fort Lauderdale and the beaches there. I used to love riding my bike up A1A on Saturday mornings. Beautiful photos. 🙂

    1. Donna, aww! thank you so much! I’m glad I could help you look back to some nice memories. Ft. Lauderdale beach is so beautiful this time of year. I really need to make a point to go more frequently with me and my camera- and just enjoy it. Come visit, and I’ll take your picture too. 😉
