Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all who have served our country!!!

Take a moment to remember those who have died while bravely fighting for the United States!

All posts are better with a photo, so here is one I took about three years ago (I’ve shared it before, but I always like to go back toit). As I was driving home from a friend’s house, I came across this cemetery in Delray Beach. It had just started to rain, and the image of the soldier’s grave stone with the American flag and raindrops falling really struck me, so I decided to photograph it.

I don’t know the man whose name is pictured below, but taking a look at his gravestone you can see that his service to his country was very important to him and his family.

Remembrance

Finally, I thought I’d share this Wikipedia article about the history of Memorial Day. I found it to be really interesting as the holiday started during the Civil War and the various states (especially Southern) all celebrated it differently after the war was over. The Civil War is one of my favorite wars to learn about, and I just read a fascinating (and great) book called All Other Nights by Dara Horn, which was loosely based on true events that happened during the Civil War.

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day! We will be going over to my parents’ house and grilling some hamburgers! Amy (my BFF) is coming over too, and it will be good to spend time to with my favorite war veteran on this holiday — my DAD! 🙂
